Erik Meesters was already captivated with the Münch as a youth. As a boy of eleven he saw his first
machine, a grey 1200 TTS with green petroltank, and a passion was born that would
ultimately grow into the soon to be released book Mit Herz und Seele (With
Heart and Soul).
Eleven years later Erik was the proud owner
of the same grey Münch. The machine was not exactly road-worthy, but that
wasn´t important at the time. His career with the Royal Dutch Navy left
Erik with periods of free-time to Visit Friedel Münch in Laubach, Germany, to
get advice as well as spare parts, and to expand his knowledge of the
machine. As there was neither reference material nor technical literature
available to speak of, he started collecting and sorting everything possible
regarding Münch and his motorcycles. After four years he had assembled
quite a respectable reference library.
Erik married, eventually becoming the
father of five children. The TTS was sold. The Münch virus that had
infected him as a boy seemed to be cured. Things are not always as they
seem, and so it was in 2006 that the captivation returned without mercy.
Convinced that his book was as good as written, and needed only a few
adjustments and amendments, he returned to his task of finishing the
book.
He soon discovered that he had only scratched the surface. Internet searches brought contacts and valuable
information. When the work schedule allowed he would travel far and
wide, meeting with Münch acquaintances, former workers, colleagues,
relatives, racers and friends. The result has been surprising
meetings, many new photographs and spectacular discoveries.
